We went to Big Sur for a whole week. It was fantastic! First we stopped off in Menlo Park to visit with my childhood friend Carolyn and her wife, Becca. It was great to see them along with Carolyn's folks, Sharon and John. We went into San Francisco to Aquarius Records to look at obscure music and drove around the Castro and Haight Ashbury. Kelly got to visit his friend Ed that night and the next day we headed down the coast to Big Sur. We stayed in our own little cabin on the Big Sur River. It had a full kitchen so we made dinner at home most nights but did eat out a few cool places, including Post Ranch Inn and Nepenthe (both with views of the coast). While we were there we balanced a lot hiking with a lot of resting. One night we went to the hot spring baths at Esalen Retreat. It was a bit awkward at first because they only allow people who aren't staying at Esalen to use the baths from 1-3 am so a group of about 12 was led through the darkness down to the baths overlooking the ocean. There was little or no light aside from the moon but once we adjusted and found our own tub it was quite enjoyable. By the end of the trip, it was difficult to leave but we knew Mr. Snoops would be happy to see us return.
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park - Valley View Loop
view from the Post Ranch Inn - amazing lunch with same view from the restaurant
in a hammock in the "guests only" area at Post Ranch Inn - we practiced "active belonging" Liz Lerman style and nobody questioned whether or not we should be there
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park - McWay Falls and Saddle Rock trail
making field recordings in Partington Cove
posing on rocks hurts your hands - all those people in the yoga magazines make it look so pleasant
rainbows and skulls my favorite combination
Kelly cooked us dinner almost every night we were there
roasted chicken, brussel sprouts, and yams - yum!
Andrew Molera State Park - Creamery Meadow-Molera Beach Loop
Point Lobos State Reserve
Sea Lion Point Trail
our cabin at Ripplewood Resort
Good times!

Sounds amazing...I wanna go! I love the photos.
I love these photos. I was thinking how well the concept of "active belonging" works (especially when you're white and you don't smell bad). I've done that quite a bit myself, always enjoyed it. Makes me want to go rent a cabin somewhere!
While you're in Austin, I'll be in the hospital. I'm having my knee surgery on 10/17. So, think good thoughts for my knee and enjoy, and I'll catch you the next visit.
much love to the three of you,
c
I wonder why that deer didn't move back and forth when we gave it a quarter.
